Things You Should Do To Stay Organized Every Month
The start of a new month can be an exciting time. It can also be a reminder of how quickly the year is flying by.
Sometimes, it can feel like the previous months were wasted and you had no time at all to accomplish what you needed. These easy tips I compiled will help you to not only stay organized every month, but they will help you get ahead! Let’s get started.
Envision the Entire Month
Before you head into the new month, take some time to envision exactly what it is that you need to accomplish. Each month comes with different goals, obstacles, and adventures so it’s necessary to treat each month uniquely.
If you’re not sure how to envision your month, try making a giant to-do list. This list can include any appointments you have, all your monthly goals, and any other things you know you should be doing.
Once you have a good look at how your month will likely be, you can start to break it down into smaller bits.

Goals are vital. Most people have goals but it’s not good enough to set a goal that doesn’t get reevaluated often.
At the beginning of each month, take an honest look at where you are in your journey to achieving your goal. From there, establish small goals for the month that work toward your big goal.
Having a clear goal for each month gives you something to work toward. It also helps tailor each day so that you are focused and on track to achieving your goals.
Setting clear and focused goals is a surefire way to stay organized every month.

Clean Your Space
At the start of each month, clean your area. Some months are busier than others, which means sometimes our space gets messy. Don’t let that go unchecked for months at a time.
Instead, use the first few days of each month to clean your area. This is especially helpful if you do any sort of work from home.
Studies show that we concentrate best when we are in a cleaner area. So, get to cleaning!
Organize Files and E-Files
Just like keeping clean, it’s a good rule of thumb to make sure your files are in order.
One of the worst scenarios is when you can’t find a paper that you know you have. If you want to stay focused every month avoid all of this by cleaning out your desk and stacks of papers each month.
I personally use a small collapsible filing cabinet to keep all my business paperwork and personal information in order. If there is anything that I don’t want or need, I shred it and throw it out. There is no use in keeping old papers and letting them pile up month after month.
The same goes for the files on your computer. I personally hate having anything on my desktop. It’s completely clean. All my files are neatly organized into their appropriate folders.
Occasionally, a few documents do end up on my desktop because of graduate school or work. At the beginning of each month, I simply organize those documents into their appropriate folders and it instantly helps me keep clean and organized.
Assess Your Finances
I know, I know. It can be tough to check your bank account especially when it’s less than you want it to be. In order to establish a budget for the month, it’s important to know exactly how much money you have.
Setting a budget is one of the best ways to make sure you don’t overspend. Budgets also help you save money, which we all know is important.

Update Your Calendar
Whether you have a planner, a chalkboard calendar, or use your phone, calendars need to be updated at the beginning of each month.
I’m the type of person who heavily relies on my calendar and I know I’m not the only one. Every time I arrange hangouts with friends, we always have to check our calendar first to make sure there is no overlap in our plans.
You’ll want to make sure to add any appointments, birthdays, meetings, hangouts, dates, and any other notable events happening that month.
Now when you go to make any plans you can check your calendar and know for sure if you are free or not, which helps you to easily stay organized every month.
Buy Any Necessary Presents
I love to buy presents in advance. It helps me be able to take my time and if I’m ordering something online, I know it will arrive on time.
At the start of each month, check to see who is having a birthday, who is getting married, or any holiday’s that are coming up and make your gifts list.
The sooner you get your gifts, the less you have to worry about it later in the month. I will literally buy all my gifts a month in advance just to make sure I’m prepared and have one less thing to worry about.
Talk about being organized and ahead!
Okay, it doesn’t have to be that deep of a clean, but deep enough to make a difference in staying organized every month.
While throughout the month you probably (hopefully) do stuff like laundry, dishes, and wipe the countertops, it’s easy to neglect washing the bedsheets, towels, cleaning the shower, toilet, and vacuuming the house.
If you could commit to deep cleaning once a month, it makes future cleaning so much easier. It also helps you keep a clearer head because a clean space is good for you.
Plan 1 Fun Activity
If you work a lot or are constantly busy, life can start to feel overwhelming and exhausting. To combat this, plan one fun activity each month.
This could be a mini-vacation, going to the beach, going to a concert, trying a new restaurant, seeing a movie, or anything that makes you happy. The trick is to plan something for you to look forward to.
If each month you had something to look forward to, it can help motivate you during your rough days. It’s also a nice treat to reward yourself with. After all, you probably work extremely hard so it’s okay to treat yo’self once in a while!
Months tend to fly by these days. That means time is literally flying! Hopefully these tips help you to stay organized every month.
Best of luck to you!
