By now the phrase ‘home quarantine’ is familiar all around the world. This forced quarantine due to the Coronavirus has left many people worried about their finances. Suddenly, people are wondering how to make extra money each month just to pay their bills.

While the world will someday resume business as usual, many people are wondering what to do about the here and now. Bills still need to be paid, food still needs to be bought, and our butts still need toilet paper.

The point is, even in home quarantine we still need money.

For many people, money has become extremely tight overnight. With everyone being forced to adhere to social distancing and unable to go to work, a lot of people have found themselves unemployed without pay.

Depending on which country you live in, the government has reached out to help. But with the amount of money needed to sustain all who has lost their jobs, the bottom line is it’s just not enough money being given out.

The big question is, is there a way to make extra money even during this global pandemic. The short answer is yes!

Now that we can’t leave the house to go to work, more and more people are wondering how to make money from home, which typically means how to make money online.

People who work online for a living have figured out ways to make money from home for years now. There is an entire population of people who actually rely on the internet to provide them with a sustainable income.

It’s important to note that making money online is not really an overnight thing.

However, there are some options that will make you money faster, which I’ll definitely list below.

So while you’re at home stuck in quarantine and unable to go to work, take advantage of these extra ways to make money to help you and your family with the bills.

1. Online Surveys (that actually pay!)

I get it. Online surveys have a reputation for being scammy.

I’ll be honest, some of them are! I have definitely had my share with the scammy online surveys, which is why I know the perfect ones to recommend.

But here’s the thing about online surveys. You won’t get rich.

But getting rich isn’t the point right now. The point is to make extra money during home quarantine. In my opinion, the fastest and most assured way to make this extra money (and quite possibly even overnight) is to take online surveys.

The thing that I like about online surveys is that you can do them at home (which is where everyone is at) and while watching Netflix (which is what everyone’s doing!). They are brainless activities that have a guaranteed payout in the end.

If you’re interested in online surveys, I highly recommend using Survey Junkie. Survey Junkie is reliable, secure, and they make sure to pay their surveyors the agreed-upon price.

It’s time to bring in some extra bucks!

2. Start a blog

Of course I had to put blogging on this list.

Blogging is my favorite way to make extra money, especially during home quarantine.

The thing about blogging is that it is more of a long game rather than a get rich quick process. But blogging has proven to be a very sustainable income for people who are willing to put in the work.

If you find that in home quarantine and you don’t have a ton of things to do, perhaps now is a perfect time to start your awesome blog.

The number one question I get from friends and readers is how do I start a blog. You might be surprised to know that setting up a blog actually takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes. From there, it’s all up to you to put in the work to get some money back.

Trust me when I say that blogging is fun and rewarding.

If you’ve ever been interested in starting a blog but have never taken the steps, I recently put together an extremely detailed article on how to get started with a money-making blog.

When I say it’s detailed I mean this article is over 4000 words. 4808 words to be exact. The reason it’s so long is because it gives you every single step you need to take in order to start a blog.

Hopefully, blogging can be an awesome way for you to make extra money during home quarantine.

3. Food delivery apps

Food delivery apps are more popular than ever before.

Of course, that’s because nobody can really leave their house and go out to eat at a restaurant, yet people still want to eat at their favorite places. Just this morning I got an email from the delivery app Instacart saying that they are in desperate need of in-store and delivery shoppers.

I mean it when I say there is a clear and obvious need for people to work in this industry during the Coronavirus.

The great thing about food delivery apps right now is that everyone has done their part to make sure that people are staying safe and healthy.

That means that when you go to a restaurant or a fast food place to pick up food to be delivered, you are most likely going to be protected from potential germs as everyone now has to wear face masks and gloves.

Additionally, to enter into most grocery stores requires a facemask. Of course, safety relies on everyone to do their part to continue to wash their hands. However, the point is that even though you have to leave your house to earn extra money in this way, it is a rather guaranteed way to make money and still be safe.

4. Teach online tech

Everything is online lately, right? So it makes sense that people need help.

Just the other day when I was setting up the online class that I have to teach for my freshman composition students, I ran into an issue with the Blackboard system and I didn’t know how to fix it.

At that moment, I wish that there was someone I could talk to for even 15 minutes to help walk me through the process. I was so desperate that I was willing to pay.

Now, I am at the millennial generation, the generation that is known to understand technology. If I don’t understand something about technology, imagine the number of people out there who don’t understand how to use them, Skype, Blackboard, Panopto and any other system they are suddenly required to use in order to keep homeschooling their children or to keep working from home.

A great way to make extra money right now and take advantage of the online world is to offer services at an affordable price to teach people how to use these systems.

You can advertise on Facebook, Instagram, and even email colleagues and friends. I’m sure there are is someone willing to pay $5, $10 to even $15 dollars learning how to set up their YouTube video.

Again, you probably won’t get rich doing this but that’s not the point. The point is to make extra money to survive the times we are in.

5. Sell your stuff

I know not everybody has the time to do a deep cleaning of the house, especially with kids at home, spouses at home, and working from home in general.

But, if you find that you do have time to do a deep clean of your house, consider selling the stuff that you find. Normally I recommend that you donate items to a donation center or a charity, but given that most of them are currently closed and people need to make extra money right now, the smart option would be to sell it online.

The good news is that there is plenty of online sites that have previously been set up for people to sell their used items. All you have to do is take a photo of the item, post it on the app of your choice, and when someone purchases, you ship the item to them. Good thing the post office is still open!

Oh, and if you’re worried about shipping, the person who purchased your product has to pay for that.

It really is a great deal, especially since online shopping has skyrocketed due to stores being closed. Below are my recommendations for the best places to sell your stuff online.

I want to sincerely wish you the best of luck during this time. It is truly difficult for many people and I know that I’m not the only one who has been a little financially stressed out.

Hopefully, these five suggestions on how to make extra money during home quarantine will help bring in a few extra bucks over the next couple of months.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before thousands of times but I want to give you one more reminder to stay safe, stay healthy, and wash hands. We are in this together.
